Plastic Sucks with Dougie Poynter.
What springs to mind when we namedrop Dougie Poynter? McFly bassist: yes. I’m a Celeb winner: totally. Model: 100%. But did you know he’s an active environmental activist and campaigner? Neither did he until he bumped into Anna Cummins and Marcus Eriksen while living in LA.
Founders of eco-activism charity, 5 Gyres, they explained the perils of ocean-borne microplastics being ingested by sea life and thereafter - even being ingested by us. Since then he’s been instrumental in the campaign for a ban on microbeads in the UK, as well as working with charities WWF and Greenpeace. Now, you can read his solo-authored, non-fiction book, Plastic Sucks! which is full of shocking plastic facts plus useful and oftentimes novel sustainable swaps for every room. All written in a conversational, tongue-in-cheek tone with real-life examples for the younger generation.
Throughout Plastic Sucks! Dougie interviews (spoiler alert) key players in sustainable businesses, including the founder of Method, Adam Lowry, co-founders of CanO Water Josh White and Perry Fielding, and Amanda Keetley, founder of Less Plastic UK. So we thought we’d take a leaf from his book - literally - and ask him a selection of the same questions he posed.
